Teardown

Introduction

I had ants nesting in my Play 5. My choices were burn it with fire, or tear it apart.

    • Pull the front bezel forward to remove. It's only secured by velcro

    • Gently peel the rubber base away from the edges to remove 6 phillips head screw.

    • The base plate will lift straight up to reveal 3 metal stanchions. I believe these are the wireless antennas.

    Here you need to gently peel the front of the speakers off before the step 3.

    • Of the 8 screws securing the speakers to the casing, two are hidden behind thick rubber bungs, which need to be removed.

    • There are also a number of smaller philips screws underneath felt-like padding on the base of the unit. These also need to be removed.

    • Much of the circuitry is covered in some sort of epoxy resin, making maintenance virtually impossible
